westerly winds

July 17, 2011

Westerly winds are buffeting us today. Difficult to stand up so more comfortable to sit and watch the waves crashing . . . .

. . . the gulls are in their element of course. I’m reminded of a piece of Vaughan Williams ‘Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis’ . . . haunting, melodious and a sense of a journey. How I wish I could journey through the sea on and on and on. . . . .

. . but to bring me firmly back to the now, galtonias opening up and standing quite proud absorbing the buffeting conditions. Great beauty that is echoed in the music too.

Spike Milligan on Thomas Tallis – just to fragment all this seriousness:

Thomas Tallis
Bore no man any malice
Save an organist called Ken
Who played his music rather badly now and then.
   Spike Milligan
