in the olive grove

June 2, 2011

On the road from Marrakech to the Ourika Valley, turn left to cross the canal and then cross it again into small country lane that winds past some ‘new villas’ until you see a pisé building, with character, and beyond an olive grove.  Stroke the donkey’s nose and pass on to the shade of the grid  of trees all so well-managed and cleaned out that the canopy froths with thick silvery foliage and hosts thousands of sparrows. The pool sits neatly within the grid of trees – this is Dar Zarraba.

Dates and more decorative plants – roses, hibiscus and hippeastrums – plus spreads of verbena and mint.

The lamps are grouped during the day and then placed around the garden/grove as the light falls away. Mmmm – all rather heavenly. Merci Michel!
